Recruiting with Twitter

Ok, so check it out; Twitter is absolutely the most widely talked about and maybe even the most twitter-birdused tool to communicate on a second by second basis. It’s fast paced, quick hitting and gets relevant information to your followers in an instant. It’s an awesome tool that I have become addicted to and it runs my desk.

Now I know Twitter has been written about probably a million times on other Blogs, but this post comes from a reader that asked the question:

Follow Me on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/ryanleary or @ryanleary

Ryan, what are your top Twitter Tools that you use to manage the mayhem? And What types of activities do you use them for?

This is a loaded question. At face value I am recruiter. So the way I utilize Twitter is slanted. But on a daily basis here are the areas I leverage Twitter:

  • Maintaining and expanding my personal brand
  • Managing my talent groups
  • Due Diligence (Company intelligence)
  • And I can’t forget – I help people as much as I can

Let’s consider this Article 1 of 4 quick bites to chew on. I will focus on the key question here (My top tools) and the subsequent articles to follow will delve into the 4 areas mentioned above.

So here we go: My Top Twitter Tools and Why I use them:

TweetDeck

You can read a full post HERE about my usage:

  • Essentially TweetDeck allows me to manage my screen, groups and feeds coming into and out of my Twitter world. It’s an awesome way to leverage unique search features and TRACK specific talent you are looking to connect with.

TweetBeep

  • VERY similar to Google Alerts. I threw this app in because it works and I wanted to give you all a variety of options here. I prefer TweetDeck, as TweetDeck manages everything live on my screen and runs in the background. TweepBeep sends an email… As if you need more of those. Effective, yes. Annoying…to me yes.

Twitter Feed

  • So, Twitter Feed is another great app that I use to help build link backs to me. Weather it is here on CruiterTalk.com, my LinkedIn Profile, FaceBook etc. If you are a Blogger this is a great tool to blast your posts to your Tweeps (yes I said Tweeps not Peeps…) as you publish. It’s real time and effective.

TwittURLy

  • Another great app to help you build some great intelligence on top URL’s being talked about and tracked on the web. Stay in the know with Twitturly.

Twitter Search

www.search.twitter.com

  • A Google for Twitter. It’s got its own language and operators but its supper easy to pick up and will greatly cut the crap that you will find in the normal search feature at Twitter.

I would check this out especially if you are seriously considering Twitter as a main vehicle to recruit or at least a serious channel of potential talent.

Bit.ly

  • URL Shortner. This can be used in multiple ways. First if you are using TweetDeck than this is already embedded. If not, you have to be able to manage your 140 characters wisely to get your point across. If you are sending a link, that could be 300 characters. Bit.ly (and there are others, like tiny url etc) that will shrink your link to a manageable size. Great for Twitter link posters.

TwitHire

  • FREE job Posting to Twitter. Now this is limited. It currently as of today only sports 4 separate categories, but if you are creative, you can make it work for.

That’s it for now, nothing outrageously special, no spy tricks just simple tools for response management that makes this an effective tool.

Stay close as I will be posting the remaining topic above detailing how to really use Twitter to recruit and build some great talent pipes.
